After World War ll, Tom Piper worked for several electrical companies both large and small in and around Toronto.
It was in 1948 that Tom decided he wanted to work for himself and it came to fruition Piper Electric was founded in Toronto's
east end in 1953. Tom was very instrumental in the setting up of the licensing of electricians in Toronto and was very
proud to be offered the original Metropolitan Toronto licence number of E2, which today the company still operates under.
It was not until the late '80's that Tom garnered a partner in the well established business,
that being the second youngest of his six children, Tom Jr. Affectionately known to their many repeat
customers as the Tom & Tom show, the two ran the company together until Tom Sr.s death in 1995. Tom Jr. continues
the company to this day.
Although the company moved their location to Richmond
Hill in 1999 and then re located again to the town of Bradford in 2017 the company still offers the same great service to
the city of Toronto and surrounding area's, going as far as Burlington, Guelph, Sutton, Ajax, Oshawa, and areas closer such
as Barrie, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmrket.
Piper Electric still has the
same phone number (416-461-8134) today as they did the day they opened business, except back then, well over 60 years
ago, the phone number was known as HO.8134 (the HO standing for the old Howard exchange).
